Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire & Vermont is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that creates and supports life-changing mentoring relationships.e provide community and site/school-based mentoring for youth throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. Youth from ages 6-17 are welcome to apply. Our mentoring services are free of charge for all families. BBBSNHVT also partners with regional organizations and businesses to provide fun, local events, group match activities, and educational trainings.

Research shows that adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can lead to long-term negative outcomes, but having a caring, consistent adult can act as a powerful protective factor.
All youth, no matter their circumstances, are welcome to join BBBSNHVT.
Over 85% of the youth we match are experiencing significant adversities. These circumstances range from poverty, mental and emotional health concerns, foster care, unstable housing, parental incarceration, or living within an environment of substance misuse. SUPPORTING GRANITE & GREEN MOUNTIAN STATE YOUTH
BBBSNHVT is an independent New Hampshire/Vermont-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a local affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. We hold a contract with BBBSA to provide a nationally recognized evidence-based mentoring model for youth in the Granite and Green Mountain States. We are not employed by or financially supported by BBBSA.
Our mentoring model excels in supporting youth to effectively identify, access and manage potential opportunities, increase their social capital, avoid early onset drug/alcohol use, break the cycle of poverty and achieve economic self-sufficiency after high school.
Professional staff work with each youth, their family and mentor to provide training, coaching, youth safety checks, 1:1 and group activities, and referrals to other organizations for additional services, when needed.
What sets us apart is our sole focus on mentoring. We are part of a nationwide network of experts in the field of youth safety, trauma-informed programming and innovative approaches to youth mentoring that meet the needs of our local communities.
OUR HISTORY
We are the premiere youth empowerment mentoring organization, creating and supporting one-to-one relationships between youth facing adversity and caring volunteer mentors. Initially originating in Manchester, NH in 1966 and after growth of three additional BBBS agencies within one state, they merged in 2015 and became Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire, Big Brothers Big Sisters of VT was established in 1975 (formally known as BBBS of Windham County) and grew to serve more young people in the greater Brattleboro and Burlington regions.
During the evolution of each agency in each state we collaborated for many years sharing resources. In 2025, BBBSNH and BBBSVT became one organization, now Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire and Vermont (BBBSNHVT).
As a local independent affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, we have the benefit of being local and grassroots as well as being a part of the oldest and largest mentoring program in the country! As an affiliate we pay them for the overarching youth protection training and protocols and our proprietary secure volunteer system called Matchforce.
For over 120 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been the leader of innovation, accountability and child safety within the field of mentoring as well as being rated as one of the top children’s nonprofits by many independent charity evaluators. The programs offered by our organization are proven to be impactful and have positive outcomes for the youth, their family, the volunteer and community at large.
